actually, i’ve become quite amazed by how mundanity can become stressful as hell. nothing in my life is earth-shattering, life changing, or even warrants a post in this blog. but i’ve been busy and stressed.

good things to look forward to this week: been promoting matthew mayfield’s show in tuscaloosa on saturday. the bama theatre is nice, has seats, and practically makes people shut up, sit down, and listen to what’s going on onstage. and that is why matthew likes playing there…not very much bar chatter.

i guess that was good THING to look forward to this week. oh well, whatever keeps me trucking.

THAT being said, i’m not inherently unhappy. in fact, i am a pretty happy girl. i’ve got a stable job in a college town, i look young enough to be able to get “student deals” (cheap movies, half of wine and pizza tonight, etc), and i’m pretty glad i’m not engaged, married or with child. however, i do hope one day that i am doing a job i am passionate about. what is that? something that involves any number of the following: music, traveling, people, writing…etc. but, i know a job is called a job for a reason, so i’ll take any one of those with some boring stuff thrown in.

for now, let’s talk about some shows.

friday, may 1st, i went to see the constellations and the black kids at the loft in atlanta. i went with my good friend jonathon baker (editor of citysearch atlanta…now that’s a good job!), and we had a few cocktails on his roof before i went. apparently i’m more entertaining with a buzz. so there, i was a little buzzed. and it made me hate the loft even more than i normally do. atlanta is not new york, so whose grand idea was it to have a space with three different venues that all lack charm or ambiance? we’ve got some more space than a big city like new york, so and i would rather have seen this show at a bar than the concrete box that is the loft.

the constellations were good. i thought they had more appeal when their shows were few and far between. they definitely had hype when ben allen was attached,and now that the band has been reworked, they are able to tour more frequently, which has lately meant playing atlanta more often. regardless, i love them and i think they will go somewhere if they play their cards right (not that i am an expert by any means).

annnd the black kids? by this time, the wine in my belly had been one of the few things sustaining me through the night, and my stomach was making enough noise to compete with the band. needless to say, i was a bit distracted by my disdain for the loft and the revolt my stomach was leading against my body. i left three songs into the set. does that speak any for the music? perhaps if i HAD to see the band, or if they were THAT good, my stomach could be damned. but they weren’t enough to keep me there. i still love their album though, and i’d like to go to another of their shows; just not at the loft.
